Surgical Billing and
Payment Information
After surgery you may receive bills
from all providers involved with your care. Torrey Pines
Orthopaedic Medical Group will bill you for the surgeon fees
only. You will, most likely, receive bills from the
anesthesiologist, the facility (surgery center or hospital), and the
assistant surgeon. In addition, if an implant is necessary for your
care, you may receive bills from a device company. Our office does
not have information as to whether or not these entities are
contracted with your personal insurance plan, nor do we have their
rate information. If you have questions or concerns about these
other entities, please contact your insurance company or the surgery
facility. If you have questions regarding our surgeon charges,
please feel free to contact our business office at 858-452-1159.
Outpatient Surgical Guidelines
- You are to have nothing to eat
or drink 8 hours prior to surgery. This includes water, coffee,
juice, etc. If your surgery is scheduled for the morning or early
afternoon, do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night
before your surgery. If you surgery is late afternoon or
evening, you may have a light breakfast such as juice, yogurt,
or cereal, but you must not eat or drink anything 8 hour prior
to your check-in time at the hospital.
- You are to stop taking aspirin
or any medication with aspirin in it 10 days prior to surgery.
This includes Advil, or any anti-inflammatory medication such as
Naprosyn, Motrin, Feldene, Clinoril, etc. If needed, you may
take Tylenol for pain.
- You will be scheduled for a
preoperative history and physical examination in our office a
day or two prior to your surgery.
- You must bring a list of your
current medications to your preoperative appointment in our
office. This list must include the name of the medication, the
dosage and the schedule of how often you take the medication. Be
prepared to leave the list with the doctor.
- You should make a postoperative
appointment to see the doctor as instructed, usually one week
after surgery.
- If you are taking diuretics
(water pills), or medication for high blood pressure, notify
your doctor.
- The doctor would like you to use
a Hibiclens scrub around the surgical site the day before your
surgery. You can purchase Hibiclens scrub over the counter at
any pharmacy.
